Breakthrough Brain-Computer Interface: Shanghai's First Paralyzed Patient Successfully Controls Drinking with Brain Signals
According to the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Shanghai has once again set a new record in medical technology. On November 6, Huashan Hospital's neurosurgery department successfully completed a pioneering clinical implant trial of a brain-computer interface, bringing hope to paralyzed patients for regaining autonomy in their lives. This groundbreaking technology was jointly developed by Borye Medical Technology and Professor Hongbo's team from Tsinghua University. Patient Xiao Dong, after being paralyzed for four years, successfully collected neural signals from the sensory-motor area of the brain using a brain-computer interface device the size of a coin. Unlike traditional invasive brain-computer interfaces, this system employs a wireless minimally invasive design.
